#457 - banana ice cream

Oster and I made banana ice cream in blender

We really like bananas in our family

Before I married Pepe, I really only ate bananas in banana bread

Now I eat them a lot

I've been meaning to make banana ice cream since last summer

We finally did

Here's the recipe:

slice up bananas really thin

freeze them

puree them in the blender (I added a little....very, very little...water)

eat plain or scoop into an ice cream cone

it's like soft serve

really good

and super healthy

#456 - busy weekend

trip to the DMV....after an 1 1/2 wait (which included one trip out to the car to nurse the babe)...denied (ugh!)

trip to Home Depot, so Pepe could make our deck (finally) usable

trip to Costco...stocked up on all the coupon items, deck chairs and vitamuffins (but really wanted to stock up on ice cream bars)

mowed the lawn (well, Pepe mowed most of it, but I was using the push mower so I got more exercise)

church, but spent most the time nursing or walking around wearing the Moby Wrap (Parker in tow)

made banana pudding (pictured above) (more on this later)

halfway cleaned Oster's room

and had an awesome cousin birthday party...(more on this later)

#455 - Earthquake in DC

Oh my!  No joke, about 3-6 minutes ago Pepe and I both shot out of bed because the world was shaking beneath us...we felt our first ever earthquake (i think)....we are both a little shaken, literally!

ps...got to love twitter, it's the quickest (news) source out there.

#454 - The Cove

When I went out to the mailbox yesterday morning to get our netflix movie, I opened the envelope to see what movie we got (yes, I know I could check online, but I sort of like the surprise of opening it - does anyone else do that?)

It was The Cove.

I was sort of bummed because I didn't want to watch a documentary, I wanted more of a thriller or romantic comedy...something that I didn't have to think about.

Well, I'm here to tell you...I'm so glad we go The Cove in the mail.

It was riveting...powerful...stunning...shocking...

Reminded me why I got into the film/tv industry...to make a difference...to make people think...to open people's eyes to the world...

2 thumbs up (one from me and one from Pepe)

ps...casi, if you watch this you are going to need some tissues (ie:  being pregnant and your love for dolphins...it'll do a number on you)

pss...anyone that is not casi, casi's my sister and she's preggers

#452 - Little Things - JustJenn

"Everyone tries to accomplish something big, not realizing that life is made up of many little things."
-Frank A. Clark

Here are some of the little things that make up Jenn's life:

~Enjoying an ice cream cone out front of the ice cream shop yesterday with my two boys.

~The peace and calm that comes with early mornings.

~My husband buying me an anniversary card ahead of time instead of THE DAY OF our anniversary.

~Also, craigslist.

~The smell of a good candle.

What are some of the little things that make up your life right now?  I'd love to share them!

#451 - Grilled Peaches

I grilled a peach for the first time last week...it was divine!

Here's how to grill a peach:

-find a ripe (but not too mushy) peach
-cut it in half
-take out pit
-place peach on hot grill (inside side down) for 2 minutes
-take off grill and top with ice cream or eat solo

*you can also coat the peach with a little oil before grilling, but I didn't.

You should totally try this!

#449 - talking refrigerator = 2 picnics

Oster has a cool toy that talks to him in a French accent.  One thing it says is, "will you help us pack our picnic basket?"
So lately, Oster has been asking to go on picnics.  Not sure if he totally grasps the concept, because sometimes he'll just throw Parker's baby blanket on the ground and call it a "picnic".
We're enjoying packing up our picnic basket and having lunch on the living room floor (1st picture) or out in the front yard (Pepe packed the lunch above).

As the talking refrigerator says, 'it's been "mag-ni-fique"' (say that with a French accent, it's actually pretty cute!)

ps...our picnic blanket in the outdoor picture is actually an old sleeping bag of Pepe's...I just love the pattern and colors!

#448 - New Recipe Page

It's still a work in progress, but I've been working on cleaning up my sidebar and adding "pages" to the top of my blog.  My favorite is the recipe page.

#447 - Happy Half Year 182.5 days!

I was listening to NPR just a little while ago and they said at noon today, we were 1/2 way through 2010....whaaaaaat??!

...noon...today...July 2, 2010...

no way
can't be
i'm in denial

How can we be half way through the year?

So, I asked Pepe and Oster what were most memorable moments in the past 182.5 days:

Parker's birth (tops the list for sure)

We built a deck (we can't technically use...yet)

My parents came to visit

My siblings stopped by too

Being snowed in for a week

The Olympics

We remodeled 2 rooms and our hallway

Oster is talking so much!

My favorite post of the past half year

What did you do in the first 182.5 days?

Here's to 182.5 more...I feel some big changes coming our way :)

#446 - cool band-aids

l-r: pickle bandaids, ouchie bandaids, crime scene bandaids, bacon bandaids, cupcake bandaids, scar bandaids

Oster got 3 band-aids at the doctor this week (combination of shots and tests).  Ugh!  He had a hard time and I had an even harder time trying to comfort him...poor thing...no mama likes to see her baby in pain.

Anyway, I think the experience may have been a touch better with really cool band-aids.

Like any of the band-aids above.

Personally I think the "crime scene band-aids" were most appropriate, but Oster would have liked the bacon or pickle ones.
