#544 - jumping in the snow

Oster jumping in the snow today.

#543 - Maple Root Vegetables

Did I ever tell you that I worked on a cooking show?

Let's just say I gained a few pounds because I tried almost EVERYTHING!

Here's one of my favorite recipes for the colder months from Nathan Lyon:
Maple Root Vegetables
Ingredients
3 small sweet potatoes (about 1 pound), peeled, scrubbed and cut into wedges
1 pound baby carrots, washed and tips/greens discarded
5 small parsnips, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces, tips/core/greens discarded (if you don't have this, just use more carrots and sweet potatoes)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup real maple syrup
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
Juice of one lemon
Juice of one small orange
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and position a rack in the center of the oven.

In a large bowl, combine all of the above ingredients, in addition to a few good grinds of pepper and a teaspoon of salt, and then using your hands or a spoon, fold to evenly coat the vegetables.

Pour the contents of the bowl onto a baking sheet, lined with foil and roast, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are browned and tender, approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Season to taste.

I might make it tonight.

#542 - IT Crowd

Our whole family loves watching the IT Crowd on Netflix...it's a British comedy about people working in the IT department.   FUNNY!  Ok, I have to admit, when I first watched it, I wasn't hooked...but hold out...it's funny!

#541 - Crocs as a wedding present

I think I posted this comic before, but it makes me smile.  I got my first pair of Crocs as a wedding present (his & her crocs) from our good friends Jori, Andy, Mackie & Jason...we loved them!

#540 - cool ABC quilt

This picture isn't really a quilt, but I'd love to make a quilt that looks just like this...great way for Oster to learn his ABCs.

#539 - in the crib

This video reminded me of my own husband.  Last summer when Oster would cry, Pepe would climb into the crib with him to calm him down...isn't that sweet!

#538 - freezer paper stencils

Have you tried making freezer paper stencils yet to make t-shirt designs?  It's loads of fun.
I made these t-shirts about for my niece, Mae.   Here's the tutorial I used.

#537 - pickle bandaid

Remember these cool bandaids
Well, my mom bought them for me for my birthday.
I loved them and kept thinking "I can't wait to use these"...wrong thought process.
The other day Oster scrached his head, so we pulled out the pickle bandaids...he wore a pickle on his head for 2 days!

#536 - State of Idaho Pillow

I saw this Idaho State pillow and thought I could recreate it with some red corduroy I had laying around (thanks mom for the material!)

Promise...the above photo doesn't do it justice.

Here's how I did it:

1 - found a map of Idaho on the internet and blew it up to the size I wanted (about 20 inches high and 12 inches wide)  email me if you want the pattern...i'll send it your way.  Then I pinned it to the corduroy rights sides facing each other.
2 - cut out pattern leaving about 1/4-1/2 inch trim
3 - use a white crayon (i didn't have a fabric marker) to trace around pattern (probably not neccessary)
4 - sew around pattern, leaving about 2 inches open to turn inside out.  I sewed it twice to make sure it stayed.  I also used black thread b/c I ran out of red.
5 - cut of corners, so turning inside out would be easier and turned it inside out
6 - sewed white felt heart onto our hometown location with black embroidery thread
7 - stuffed it with stuffing
8 - sewed up the 2 inch hole (with correct color thread)

I think this is a perfect gift for a college student to remind them of home, so I gave it to my sister Kar.

#500 - the long awaited post - my boys

Remember a while back, in post #501, I said that post #500 was a special one and would come back to it...well, here it is:

Can't believe I've written over 500 posts (yep, there are lots not published yet)!

Last night as I was putting Oster to bed, I was going crazy.  He was jumping off his dresser onto his bed, jumping up and down, not wanting to sleep.

I was holding Parker in my arms, so I couldn't really lay the law down if you know what I mean.

Pepe wasn't around to help, so I was about to loose it...

Then...

As Oster was jumping up and down on his bed, laughing with a huge smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye...

Parker busted up laughing...out of no where...he couldn't get enough of his brother being wild...he just kept laughing

A deep down, hearty laugh...you know the one that makes your heart melt.

I just stopped and took it all in...

I tried to take a mental picture of this short, crazy, wonderful, precious moment in my life.

It will never happen again...that's it...take it or leave it...make what you want of it...enjoy it or __________ (fill in the blank).

Being a mom is so life changing...really puts life in perspective...

I go crazy a lot, but I'm really trying to just soak it up... and remember this will never happen again, so take it as it comes and make the best out of it.

Here's some mental pics I want to remember:

OSTER
*"I Love You" - says this a million times a day
*"Can I watch a moobie" - again, million times a day
*Dance party maniac - loves his music
*Loves to direct music (his hands are always moving)
*Loves his brother to pieces...really thinks the world of him
*Honest...he can be sneaky, but will always be honest

PARKER
*Loves to cuddle
*Love to laugh and smile...he's a happy baby
*Loves his mom
*Loves his food...he takes after me

And, I don't talk about him that much here, but I really do love my my husband...he works so hard for our family!   Life has thrown us some curve balls in the past few months, but he is there keeping me going when I just can't handle it any more.

New Year's Resolution #2 - soak up life...take more mental pictures and enjoy my boys (all 3!) because this will never happen again!

(about an hour after Oster finally went to bed, I walked by his room and he was fully dressed for they day, he wanted to go outside and play even though it was 11pm..."snap")

#534 - A Fortunate Life and a New Year's resolution

read it in 8 days

not my most favorite book ever, but pretty good
i'd give it 4 out of 5 stars

it's one of those books that makes you really appreciate how good your own life is
and not to take things for granted.

i really liked how most people in the "olden days" were honest, good people...people you could trust
i think that quality is lacking in today's society (it's hard to trust people and their intentions)

any good book recommendations?

New Year's Resolution #1 - read 24 books this year  - 1 down, 23 more to go
