#210 - Babysitter Blues
Last night we had a campfire (it's getting cold here, is that even possible for August?) and Pepe broke out the guitar. Here's the playlist for the evening:
This Land is Your Land - yeah, these words are hard to remember
Country Roads by John Denver - classic
Babysitter Blues - remember from Adventures in Babysitting (one of the greatest movies of all time)?
The Babysitter Blues went something like this (yes, I was the only one singing this and I'm sure our neighbors thought I was crazy):
Da da da da da, I've got the blues
Da da da da da, The baby sitter blues
Da da da da da, Don't leave us Kar
Da da da da da, Baby O's gonna miss you
Da da da da da, I've got the "don't leave us, Baby O gonna miss us, babysitter blues"
Yes, it's true, we're singing the babysitter blues because my sister is leaving this week. She's been such a great nanny to Baby O . . . we're going to miss her.

#209 - Kennedy Procession
Kar, Baby O and I made a last minute trip to DC yesterday. Driving by the Washington Monument, we noticed people lined up along the street. Turns out they were waiting for the Ted Kennedy Funeral Procession, so we decided to stop and watch.
It was actually pretty cool and I was super impressed with the entire Kennedy Family. We got to see them all (along with John Kerry).

#208 - Georgetown Cupcake
This whole summer we've been trying to go to Georgetown Cupcake. Finally, Kar made her way there and brought us home a half dozen delicious cupcakes.
Here's what we got (Pepe dug into them before I got home from work):1. chocolate 2 - ok, the chocolate cake was a little dry
2. chocolate PB swirl - ok - pictured above
3. vanilla 2 - really good - 1st place
4. coconut - delicious - probably 3rd place
5. red velvet - good cake, but the cream cheese frosting here is better - 2nd place
6. chocolate & vanilla - good - 4th place

#206 - early morning tv
My sister Kar and her bff Kelsey went to the Today Show and saw Flo Rida (he's a rapper). Baby O and I started watching tv at 7am to try and see Kar/Kelsey . . . after 2 hours of watching, Baby O getting into everything and no sign of them, I gave up.
I loved Flo Rida though . . . he was pretty fun!

#203 - He swims
Ok, not really. But Baby O is really loving the pool. He loves putting his head under the water, in fact, he practices every night during bath time.
We first went swimming about 3 weeks ago (first time since I had Baby O...yes, it's has taken me that long to fit back into my swimsuit) and I forgot how much fun swimming is....really, I could swim every day!

#202 - Steel Cut Oats done quick
I saw this and decided to pick up these quick cooking Steel Cut Oats at Trader Joes. I love how fast it cooks!
5 minutes after this photo was taken, Baby O smashed my oatmeal onto the floor :( Good thing I cooked double the recipe.

#199 - watermelon slushy
You know how much I love frozen fruit . . . well, I decided to try frozen watermelon. We had a watermelon that was pretty much scraped out, but there were still some yummy pieces left and it was going to go bad if I didn't do something.
So, I stuck the whole half of watermelon in the freezer. I froze it for about a day and when I took it out, I almost hurt myself because it was so heavy (think frozen oblong bowling ball). I used a spoon and scraped the walls of the watermelon . . . delicious!

#198 - Vintage
Baby O inherited another outfit from his Opa (aka his paternal grandpa). Isn't it adorable? Of course his Opa hasn't worn this for a few years.

#196 - Brazilian Treat BRIGADEROS
We went to Franchesca's (aka Baby O's girlfriend), 1 year-old birthday party and they had one of my favorite Brazilian treats there, Brigaderos.
Here's the recipe I got from the person who made them:
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons Quik or chocolate powder
chocolate sprinkles
In a pan, stir sweetened milk, butter and Quik over medium heat until you can drag the spoon through the middle of the pan and it leaves a trail. Pour it out on a cookie sheet with ledges. When it cools, it will get easier to mold. Roll into tiny balls (about 1 - 1 1/2 inches in diameter). Roll in sprinkles.
The nice thing about this recipe is that you can add more or less butter and Quik. You can roll in nuts or anything or nothing. You can make the balls bigger or smaller (I like smaller ones because you can eat more.)

#195 - Amish Scooters
We saw these when were in Pennsylvania 2 weeks ago and I can totally see Kar riding one of these around at BYUI in the fall.

#194 - homemade rainbow
Pepe was spraying water with our new fire hose attachment and this awesome rainbow appeared. I had to take a ton of photos to get Baby O under the rainbow at the right angle.

#192 - frozen grapes
Recently, my sister started freezing our grapes at home (along with cherries) and they are so good. (bonus...it reminds me of my grandma.)
Seriously, if you get the right type of grape...sweet...ripe...big (not small grapes)...thin skin...no seeds...red/purple...they can taste like sorbet. No joke!
Here's a fun idea for kids and frozen grapes.
